2025 Rock The Boat Cardboard Racing Event

Build a cardboard boat that will be put to the test racing in the Splash Dayz wave pool. Contestants will race down to the end of the pool . Rope must be touched.. Races will be determined by divisions and will be times
Guppy Division is ages 5 through 12 ( Kids Only).
Starfish - 13 - 17 yrs old
Shark - 18 & older
If you are an adult with a child 5 - 12 then you would enter in the shark division.
Awards and Medals will be given out to the following categories
. 1st place for fastest in their division ( One award per team).
Other awards given out will be for Titanic (Best Sink), Best Costumes, Best Boat Design and Ironman ( waves turned on) . ( One award per team)
Boats may be reused for multiple heats. Boat building will be off site and design is left up to builders.

• TEAMS ( Scouts, Groups, etc ) need to register individually
Example:
Group A: Kelly, Michelle, B
Group B: Jordan, Kobie, LeBron
• Every crewmember must wear a personal floatation device (PFD). or you will be disqualified.
• Minimum of two crew members and maximum of four crew members to a boat
• Land crew members can help the boat crew in and out of boat.
• During competition, crew must be in the boat, not towing it, or holding it between legs, swimming or allowing the life jacket to provide flotation for the vessel.
• Throwing water on another boat is reason for disqualification unless water comes from an incidental (unintentional) splash of a paddle or other propulsive devise.
• Sunken or discarded boats must be disposed of in designated receptacle/area.
• Decoration is allowed and encouraged provided they are not used as structural or floatation elements. Family friendly décor only. Will have winner for best boat design.
• Crew costumes are encouraged. Will have winner for best costume.
• No Pets allowed in park.

This is a fun event! Any behavior that is deemed to be detrimental or inappropriate by City Staff will result in team disqualification.

Construction Rules

Accepted Materials:
• The ENTIRE Boat must be built from cardboard and duct tape. Duct tape may be used to reinforce seams. Flex tape can be used.
• Corrugated cardboard, carpet tubes, cardboard blocks and PVC pipes can be used BUT the boat MUST be made out of cardboard. Most of these items can be found at recycling centers, appliance stores, department stores, electronic stores and warehouse clubs.
• Fastening material is duct tape only. Flex tape can be used.
• Hull wrapping in duct tape is allowed.
• “Paddles and Oars” MUST be made from PVC pipes, duct tape and cardboard. No real paddles/oars allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS
Prohibited materials:
• No paint or varnish is allowed.
• No wood, plastic, rubber inflatable devices, Styrofoam, or fiberglass.
• No caulking compounds, two part/mixed adhesives, glues or epoxy mixtures or coatings
• No electrical, gasoline, benzene, propane or other chemical or electrical propulsion systems are permitted.
• No surfboard style boat or pool noodles boats are allowed.
• No glitter or confetti allowed.

Construction tips
1. Use multiple layers of cardboard alternating the direction of the corrugations for the most strength.
2. Score your cardboard along the lines of the folds for the straightest bends.
3. Seal the edges of your cardboard with duct tape to prevent water from coming in.
4. Consider building a model boat to test the stability and buoyancy ahead of time.
5. Don’t make the side of your boat too high for the crew to reach over and paddle with their hands/arms.
